Post-Concussion Syndrome

Lingering symptoms after a head injury or concussion.

Understanding post-concussion syndrome

After a concussion, some people experience weeks or months of headache, dizziness, concentration problems, or fatigue. These symptoms are real and deserve proper medical evaluation and follow-up, not guesswork.

Symptoms you may notice

  • Persistent headaches after a head injury
  • Dizziness or balance problems
  • Difficulty concentrating or remembering
  • Fatigue, light, or noise sensitivity

Why an individual evaluation matters

Post-concussion care is medical care. A physician should evaluate the head injury and guide recovery. The neck is often injured in the same event, and neck problems can contribute to ongoing headache and dizziness — worth assessing once medically cleared.

Where One Life’s care may fit

After appropriate medical evaluation, Dr. Jon can examine the upper neck for injury-related mechanical problems and discuss whether One Life’s gentle upper cervical approach is appropriate. This complements — and never replaces — medical concussion care.

When to seek medical care

Seek emergency care after a head injury for worsening headache, repeated vomiting, confusion, slurred speech, weakness, unequal pupils, seizures, or increasing drowsiness.

This is not a complete list of warning signs. If you think you may be experiencing an emergency, call 911 rather than wait for an office appointment.

Educational information, not a diagnosis or individualized medical advice. Care recommendations and results vary. Discuss treatment risks, benefits, and alternatives with your provider.

Questions about post-concussion syndrome

Why does my neck matter after a concussion?

The forces that injure the brain often injure the neck too. Neck problems can sustain headache and dizziness, so examining both is reasonable.

When can I be seen?

After your head injury has been medically evaluated and you are cleared for additional care. Bring any imaging or diagnosis you have.
