Dysautonomia

Disorders of the automatic nervous system.

Understanding dysautonomia

Dysautonomia is an umbrella term for disorders of the autonomic nervous system, which controls heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, and temperature regulation. Symptoms vary widely and can include lightheadedness, heart-rate problems, and fatigue.

Symptoms you may notice

  • Lightheadedness or fainting
  • Heart-rate or blood-pressure problems
  • Digestive symptoms
  • Fatigue and temperature intolerance

Why an individual evaluation matters

Dysautonomia is a medical diagnosis requiring physician evaluation, sometimes with specialized autonomic testing. Management is medical and individualized. These symptoms should never be attributed to spinal alignment without proper evaluation.

Where One Life’s care may fit

One Life does not treat dysautonomia. If you also have neck pain, headache, or other musculoskeletal concerns, Dr. Jon can evaluate those separately and coordinate with your medical providers.

When to seek medical care

Seek urgent medical care for fainting with injury, chest pain, severe shortness of breath, or palpitations with faintness.

This is not a complete list of warning signs. If you think you may be experiencing an emergency, call 911 rather than wait for an office appointment.

Educational information, not a diagnosis or individualized medical advice. Care recommendations and results vary. Discuss treatment risks, benefits, and alternatives with your provider.

Questions about dysautonomia

Is dysautonomia curable?

It depends on the cause. Medical care focuses on diagnosis and symptom management; your physicians guide that process.

Can neck care help autonomic symptoms?

There is no established basis for claiming that. Musculoskeletal concerns can be addressed on their own merits, alongside medical care.
